1 = Always have the last word on your safety!
It's wiser to fail than to die. The more inexperience the climber the more often they (try to) summit on their first attempt.
1 = Manage and control risks!
Having a successful business is not only about taking risk but also about managing risks. Do not be afraid but be cautious. Have your contingency plan ready.
2 = Respect the weather!
Check the weather forecasts regulary and make sure you understand them and take them seriously. Do not get false security in large numbers of other climbers. Remind weather can change unexpectedly / at once despite the forecast.
2 = Understand the market!
The (financial) market can be as unpredictable as the weather. Base your judgment on facts but also rely on your instinct and act accordingly.
Take the appropriate action when needed!
3 = Use the ropes!
Clip in everywhere do not hurry, check ropes before clipping in.
Do not climb with too many people on one rope.
3 = Use your suppliers!
To get the best deals and improve your competitive edge rely on your suppliers / use the value add of the supply chain.
If a deal feels to good to be true, than this is often also the case.
Make sure you understand and know the market and check + verify information/deals on forehand.
4 = Drink Plenty!
Avoid high altitude problems.
4 = Communicate!
You can not communicate enough!
Communication helps avoid misunderstandings and unnecessary problems.
5 = Know yourself!
High altitude impacts the way you act / react.
We all react differently in dangerous situations. How will you react? Understanding the situation which might occur and knowing how you react upon them is essential for survival.
5 = Know yourself and your team!
Every person reacts differently under pressure.
Know your weaknesses and strengths of yourself and your team and know how to manage it is key for growth.
6 = Know your gear, oxygen and alpine medicine!
Preparation is the seed to success.
6 = Know your resources!
Resources can be defined as; people, systems, tools, network and utilize them when needed. Think and plan ahead. Be prepared!
7 = Watch out for avalanches!
There is not much you can do about it. Be cautious, be prepared and deal with it when needed (know your escape routes).
7 = Shit happens (=Murphy’s law)!
If this happens be pragmatic and deal with it (think about back-up scenario's).
